  • ◆ V.A.G 1331 Torque wrench (5...50 Nm)
  • ◆ VW 541/1A Valve lever
  • ◆ VW 541/5 Thrust piece
  • ◆ VW 653/3 Pressure hose
  • ◆ 2036 Assembly appliance
  • ◆ 3364 Puller

  • ◆ → 3365 Press tool

Removing

  • ‒ First remove toothed belt
    .
  • ‒ Then remove camshaft => Page 15-37 .
  • ‒ Remove roller rocker finger together with support elements and place on a clean surface.
  • ‒ Ensure the roller rocker fingers and the support elements are not interchanged.

  • ‒ Remove spark plugs.
  • ‒ Set piston of appropriate cylinder to "bottom dead centre".
  • ‒ → Fit assembly tool 2063 to cylinder head using old bolts from cylinder head cover.
  • ‒ Screw pressure hose VW 653/3 into the spark plug thread.
  • ‒ Connect pressure hose to a compressed air system of at least
         6 bar.
  • ‒ Remove valve springs with lever VW 541/1A and press piece VW 541/5.

Note:

Tight cotters can be loosened by tapping lightly on the lever.

  • ‒ Pull off valve stem seals with 3364.

Installing

  • ‒ → Place the plastic sleeve supplied on the appropriate valve stem. This will prevent the new valve stem seal being damaged.
  • ‒ Insert new valve stem seal in fitting tool 3365.
  • ‒ Oil valve stem seal sealing lip and press carefully onto the valve guide.
