Performing self diagnosis
Fault table
Notes on fault table
-
◆ When commencing fault finding of the vehicle control units, always start with function "Automatic test sequence" by pressing keys 0 and 0. This interrogates the fault memories of the control units in the vehicle.
-
◆ All the possible faults which can be recognised by the ABS control unit -J104- and printed-out on V.A.G 1551 or VAS 5051, are listed on the following pages according to the 5 digit fault code.
-
◆ Fault code appears (in the "Rapid data transfer" mode) only on the print-out.

3 digit
00283
035
-
◆ The 3 digit fault type code is a data code and may be disregarded, but the fault type text is of use.
-
◆ Before replacing components indicated as being faulty, check all the appropriate connectors, wiring and earth connections using the current flow diagram =>Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations binder.
-
◆ On completion of repairs always interrogate the fault memory with fault reader V.A.G 1551 or the new tester VAS 5051 and erase.
-
◆ Carry out road test exceeding 20 km/h (13 mph).
-
◆ After the road test interrogate fault memory again.

No fault recognised
If "No fault recognised" appears after carrying out repairs, self diagnosis is ended.
If, despite "No fault recognised" appearing in the display, the ABS system does not function properly, then proceed as follows:
1. Carry out road test exceeding 20 km/h (13 mph),
2. Again interrogate fault memory, if there is still no fault stored,
3. Continue fault finding without self-diagnosis and work through the complete
Electrical check
.
