Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-
Removing:
  Note
t  To disconnect and reconnect the battery, the procedure described in the workshop manual should be strictly adhered to → Chapter.
t  If the vehicle has a radio with anti-theft coding, obtain code before disconnecting battery.
t  When the battery is reconnected, check the vehicle equipment (radio, clock, window regulators) as per Workshop Manual and/or the Owner's Manual.
–  Disconnect battery → Chapter.

–  To remove the lower trim of the steering column switch, remove both cross-head screws -arrows-.
–  Removing lower steering column trim
–  Remove driver side airbag → General body repairs, interior; Rep. Gr.69.
–  Remove steering wheel → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. Gr.48.

–  Detach connector -arrow- from resetting unit.
–  Pull connector off steering lock housing.
–  Removing upper steering column trim
  V48-1123
–  Remove securing bolts -arrows-.
–  Disconnect connectors to turn signal switch and wiper switch.
–  Pull off turn signal and windscreen wiper switch from steering column.
Installing:
Installation is carried out in reverse order of removal.
