Radio navigation system (RNS)
General description

The radio/navigation system (RNS) combines the functions of a navigation system with that of a high quality RDS car radio.

Installed in the systems double DIN housing are

  • ◆ a RDS radio receiver
  • ◆ a dot matrix liquid crystal display
  • ◆ a navigation system with GPS satellite receiver
  • ◆ a CD-ROM drive for the audio and navigation system.

Two connectors on the housing connects the radio, telephone and navigation aerial with the radio/navigation system.

The CD drive can read a CD-ROM for navigation or a music CD. Whilst playing a music CD only restricted operation of the navigation system is possible.

Notes:

  • ◆ No 8 cm diameter music CDs (mini discs) can be played.
  • ◆ If an 8 cm diameter music CD (mini disc) is pushed into the drive it cannot be ejected.
  • ◆ No mix CDs (CDs where computer data and music are stored together on a CD).

Fault finding

The radio navigation system is equipped with self-diagnosis.

The self diagnosis must be initiated at the commencement of fault finding and the stored information interrogated with the

Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information system VAS 5051 or

Fault reader V.A.G 1551 or

Vehicle system tester V.A.G 1552.
