Removing and installing subframe without steering box Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-

t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1332- Carry out the following work: Removing –  Loosen wheel bolts. –  Raise vehicle. –  Remove wheels. –  Remove lower noise insulation → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.66.

–  Remove nuts -arrows-.

–  Remove hexagon nut -1- from coupling rod (left and right sides). –  Pull out coupling rod -3- from anti-roll bar -2- on left and right side.

–  Pull retaining rings -1- for exhaust pipe off subframe.

–  Unbolt steering box from subframe -arrows- and tie up with wire (or similar). –  Fix position of subframe → Chapter. –  Lower subframe using engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A-. Installing –  Secure subframe → Anchor. Continue installation in reverse order. –  Install wheels and tighten bolts or nuts → Chapter.

Specified torques

Steering box to subframe t  Use new bolts.	50 Nm + 180° further
Coupling rod to anti-roll bar	40 Nm
