Erratic or too high a temperature gauge reading is usually caused by poor contact between the instrument cluster printed circuit board and the
temperature compensating board. The poor contact is due to flux remaining from the soldering process of the instrument cluster printed circuit board.
In this case, remove and disassemble the instrument cluster. (See Service Manual Pg 6; steps E6-E9.)
-
Remove the temperature compensating board (1).
-
Clean the contacts (2) carefully using a thin object, such as a sharpened piano wire.
-
Make sure that the small tongues of the contacts are not distorted. If so, bend them carefully inward so they make good contact with the pins
of the printed circuit board.
