Parking Brake Cable: Service and Repair

Removal

- Remove the parking brake cover and disconnect the ashtray light. Slacken the screw (1) to release the cable tension. Then slacken the nut (2) on the

cable to be replaced. Remove the nut, holding the end of the cable with a small screwdriver (to prevent the cable turning).

Note!  The cables cross over under the vehicle so that the cable on the left of the lever operates the right rear wheel brake, and vice versa.

- Lift up the front end of the rear seat cushion, move the floor mat to one side, and free the clamps securing the cable to the floor.

- Remove the cable sleeve and rubber grommet from the rear seat support.

- Support the rear of the vehicle and remove the rear wheel(s).

- Remove the guard plate (on vehicles so equipped).

- Detach the brake line from the rear axle.

- Remove the mounting bolts and hang up the caliper on the rear suspension with a wire. Avoid bending the brake line.

- Remove the brake drum.
