False indication of leakage - hose with PVC sheath
If a leakage test is performed in or at the ends of the PVC sheath, the test equipment can give a false reading of refrigerant leakage. The reason for this
incorrect reading is the plastic used contains a softening material which separates from the plastic and can affect the test equipment's sensor, thus falsely
showing that the refrigerant has leaked out. The softener material can look like A/C compressor oil within the plastic sheath. The plastic sheath must be
removed and the hose cleaned. A new test for leakage must then be carried out.
The A/C hose should only be replaced if the actions below have been carried out and the leakage test equipment still indicates refrigerant leakage.
This Service Bulletin describes a method for preventing false leakage indication on the A/C hose, to be carried out before installing a new hose.
Only hoses without a plastic sheath are available as replacement parts.

Action to be taken on leakage indication on A/C hose with plastic sheaths
Caution:
Be careful not to damage the black hose.
Removal of the plastic sheath
-
Cut off the plastic clamp retaining the plastic sheath.
-
Slit up the entire length of the sheath.
