Spring sound from Airbag steering wheel

For operations that include removal of the airbag module refer to Service Manual Section 8(88) SRS (Air bag) 850 1993-- page 201 points FB1 and
FB2, and for reinstallation page 205 points FB10, FB11 and FB12.

The airbag module retaining springs may cause a sound in the car. This can be minimized by using new bolts of a different size, P/N 9157407-9, (4 bolts)
between the upper bracket and the airbag retaining plate. This has been implemented into production with chassis number 854: 150658, 855: 055184.

Warning!

Cars equipped with SRS must be serviced with care in order to avoid: (1) Personal injuries during installation. (2) Malfunctions or damage to SRS.
All repairs to the SRS or any other components which can affect the SRS, must always be carried out by an authorized workshop.

Removal of the airbag module

Turn off the ignition.

-

Remove the battery negative terminal.

-

Turn the ignition key to the position 1.

Remove airbag module.

See Service Manual TP 8801201, page 201, points FB1 and FB2.

Replace bolts
-

Replace the four Torx bolts in the retainers.

Note:

Replace one at a time in order to avoid releasing the springs under the retainers. The thin plastic washers from the old bolts should be used with the
new screws.

Torque the bolts to 5 N-m (3.7 ft.lbs).
