3. Press out piston from caliper. Place old brake pad or block of wood in front of piston. Press out piston partially with compressed air and remove
dust seal. Then, press out piston completely.
NOTE: Take care to ensure that fingers are not trapped when removing piston.
4. Remove dust seal and fluid seal from caliper. Use blunt blade to remove fluid seal to avoid damaging groove edges.
5. Remove bleeding nipples. Clean components in denatured alcohol, paying particular attention to passages, cylinder bore, seal seating grooves and
dust seals. Blow clean with compressed air. Replace fluid and dust seals. Replace complete caliper if cylinder bores are heavily marked or scored.
Minor oxidation in bores may be removed with fine emery paper. Inspect other components and replace damaged or worn items.
ASSEMBLE
1. Lubricate the working parts of the pistons, cylinder bores and seals with genuine Volvo brake fluid.
2. Install lubricated fluid seal in cylinder groove dust seal on end of piston as illustrated on following page. Install dust seal in groove in caliper
(piston housing).
3. Press piston carefully to bottom of piston housing, ensuring that dust seal is seated in groove in piston. Install bleeding nipples. Tighten lower
nipple to 4.5 Nm (3.5 ft. lbs.).
