Front brakes with Girling single-piston calipers
To improve the service life of the front brake pads and discs, the lower clip should be removed on both the left and right-hand sides.
Note:
Oxidation and dirt may accumulate under this clip.
This should also be carried out when replacing the brake pads.
Girling single-piston calipers are fitted to 1991 models with ABS and on all model variants from 1992 on and older cars retrofitted with these calipers.
Removal of lower spring clip
Jack up and support car. Remove front wheels.
Remove bolt in lower guide pin.
Raise caliper and tie in position with steel wire.
Remove brake pads.
Note:
Do not operate brake pedal while pads are removed.
Remove lower spring clip.
Clean caliper and pad faces.
Inspect guide pin and piston dust caps.
Replace dust caps as required. See TP 31087/2
Reinstall brake pads and lower caliper into position.
Tighten guide pin bolt to 27 N-m (20 ft.lb.).
Check level in brake fluid reservoir. Operate brake pedal several times.
Refit front wheels.
