Brake Hose/Line: Service and Repair
Brake Line
Cleaning
Brake pipes can be cleaned by flushing with brake fluid or alcohol, and by blowing through with dry, filtered compressed air.
NOTE: The purpose of cleaning is to remove all traces of original brake fluid and particles of dirt. This should be carried out as part of the hydraulic
system reconditioning procedure and when installing new components.
Replacement
REMOVE
1. Clamp pedal in depressed position. Pedal must be clamped to prevent emptying of brake fluid when replacing brake pipes.
2. Brake pipes, replacement. The brake pipes should be replaced as described below if leakage is observed or if the pipes have been exposed to
conditions such that leakage or restriction of the pipes is a likelihood.
3. Clamp brake pedal in depressed position. Clean connections and remove damaged brake pipes.
Install
1. new brake pipe. Use complete pipe, blow through with dry, filtered compressed air.
2. Position pipes so that rubbing cannot occur while driving. For example, no pipe should be closer than 10 mm (0.4 inch) to the steering column. If
a pipe is bent incorrectly, adjust by hand before installing. Bending of pipes in position often causes deformation of connection.
3. Remove pedal clamp.
4. Bleed system.
