In certain cases, the CD-401 compact disc remote control unit combined with the CR-718 radio may cause speed-dependent radio interference in the
form of a whining noise from the alternator and/or crackling from the ignition system.
The reason for the interference is the absence of a ground connection on the 13-pole DIN cable between the CD-401 and the radio. If this type of radio
interference occurs, install a ground lead as follows:
Make up a 30 cm (12 in.) length of 1.5 sq.mm (16 AWG) wire with 5 mm ring terminals (for M5 screws) at each end.
Remove the equipment items from their compartments.
Connect one end of the lead to the radio ground terminal as illustrated.
Reinstall the radio in its compartment and run the lead into the CD-401 compartment.
Attach the other end of the lead to the vacant hole in the CD-401 chassis using an M5 X 8 Torx screw, p/n 969403-5.
Reinstall the CD-401 unit.
CR-718 radios with serial numbers ending in "C" or higher, e.g., V08620B3080102C, have already been modified.
