Fuel Rail: Service and Repair
Removing Fuel Rail And Components
REMOVAL
1.
Turn ignition OFF.
2.
Disconnect the electrical connector at the cold start (if equipped) and fuel injectors.
3.
With a shop towel, cover the fuel supply hose to rail connection.
WARNING: Fuel lines are under pressure. Fuel may spray from loose connection until pressure is relieved.
4.
Loosen supply hose a little and catch excess fuel with towel.
5.
Remove fuel supply hose.
6.
Remove cold start injector connection and line.
7.
Remove fuel return and vacuum hoses from pressure regulator and fuel rail.
8.
Remove fuel rail (as one unit) with injectors and pressure regulator attached.
9.
Disconnect clip at each injector. Injectors can now be removed.
10.
Remove pressure regulator.
11.
Replace fuel rail.
INSTALLATION
1.
Check the O-rings on all injectors and pressure regulator. Replace if hard or damaged. Smear O-rings with Vaseline (or equivalent) before
installing injectors or pressure regulator.
2.
Reinstall fuel injectors into new fuel rail.
3.
Reinstall pressure regulator.
4.
Install and tighten fuel rail assembly onto intake manifold. Check that the ground wires make good contact.
5.
Reconnect all fuel and vacuum lines.
6.
Reinstall cold start injector line.
7.
Reconnect all electrical connectors.
8.
Start engine and check for leaks at fuel rail assembly.
