DAMAGE TO CARRIER PLATE IMPULSE WHEEL

Certain engine running conditions may be due to damage to the impulse wheel mounted on the carrier plate.

The carrier plate and impulse wheel are attached to the torque converter.

The impulse wheel may be damaged, for example, if an attempt is made to turn the engine by inserting a screwdriver in the wheel. This practice is,
therefore, prohibited. Damage may also occur when the engine and gearbox are lifted in and out of the car.

The impulse wheel is extremely vulnerable to physical damage. If damage occurs, the engine speed sensor will deliver erroneous signals to the control
unit, resulting in running problems or failure to start.

This may occur even if the damage mark is as small as 1 mm (0.04 in.) in size.
