Intercooler: Testing and Inspection
1.
Check the intercooler visually for damage and corrosion.
2.
Open the drain plug at the bottom of cooler and drain all fluids. If engine oil has accumulated in cooler, check the turbo charger. Also check the
positive crankcase ventilation system.
3.
Remove intercooler from vehicle.
4.
Cap off the inlet and outlet ports. Caps must withstand at least 69 kPa (10 psi) of pressure.
5.
Use an air gun or similar device with a pressure gauge and apply, through the drain plug hole, no more than 69 kPa (10 psi) of pressure to the
intercooler.
CAUTION:Never apply more than 69 kPa (10 psi) to the intercooler, or damage may occur.
Listen for leaks at the intercooler body.
a. If leaks exist, repair or replace intercooler.
b. If no leaks are found, intercooler is in good condition.
6.
Disconnect all test equipment, reinstall drain plug and intercooler.
