Correct adjustment of the paint sprayer is essential when painting with solid primer.
Use a 1.3-1.5 mm nozzle opening and a spray pressure of 300-500 kPa (3-5 kp/cm2).
The wrong nozzle combination may make it impossible to achieve the correct color tone.
Bad dispersion because of the incorrect nozzle leads to large drops and too "wet" (dark) spraying.
Too thick a coat leads to patchiness.

METALLIC
When repairing metallic colors, it is always difficult to achieve a good color conformity and as a rule it is easier to get a dark color to agree than a light
color.
Color conformity is affected primarily by how the metallic base coat is applied, i.e. by the spraying technique employed. This affects the flow and
thickness of the coat.
The drying time between coats is also highly significant for color conformity.
Therefore an incorrect color can easily result despite precautions. This usually results in a coat which is either too dark or too light.
(Dark) patchy coat ("wet coat") indicates too little aluminium in the surface. This can be remedied by a "dryer" second coat.
Light coat ("dry coat") indicates too much aluminum in the surface and usually gives the surface a grey shade. This is remedied by a "wetter" second
coat.
Wet spraying is achieved when:

the color flow is increased
-
the air supply is reduced
-
the spraying distance is reduced
-
the second coat is sprayed thicker.
The measures to achieve a "dry" spraying are the opposite to "wet" spraying. In the event of difficulty in achieving a dryer spraying, it may be necessary
to reduce the spraying viscosity of the base metallic coat for a few seconds. Sometimes a "faster thinner" may also be necessary.
Work procedure
Volvo's metallic paint is a two coat type. This consists of a base metallic coat at the bottom and a 2 comp varnish coat at the top. This system gives a
good finish and good color durability.
