Remove the brake pads and shims. Use puller 999 2917 EXTRACTOR See: Tools and Equipment/999 2917 Extractor if the brake pads are
difficult to remove.
Cleaning and checking

Clean the brake pad contact surfaces in the brake caliper.

Check the piston's dirt cap.

If the dirt guard looks worn, replace it as a precautionary measure.

If the dirt guard is damaged, overhaul the brake caliper. See Brake caliper rear, overhaul See: Brake Caliper/Service and Repair/Overhaul/Brake

Note! If the dirt guard is damaged, dirt may have penetrated into the cylinder and the brake caliper must be overhauled.
