Automatic Transmission Fluid: Removal and Replacement
Oil, changing
Note! Use only automatic transmission fluid (ATF) which fulfills both Dexron II E and Ford Mercon standards.
Warning! Avoid skin contact with the transmission fluid.
Warning! The oil may be very hot if the car has just been driven.
Conditions
Only replace the oil in the following instances:

Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) AT-235 is stored if the on-board diagnostic (OBD) system has recorded that oil temperature is too high

If the oil smells burnt and is discolored and no diagnostic trouble code (DTC) has been stored. For example due to hard and intensive use

Cars in continuous taxi service and / or used to tow trailers extensively, should have oil changes at 75 000 km service intervals.
Draining the transmission
Warning! Avoid skin contact with the transmission fluid.
Warning! The oil may be very hot if the car has just been driven.
Remove the drain plug. Drain the oil from the transmission.
Install the oil drain plug. Use a new sealing ring.
Torque: 40 Nm.
