Steering Gear: Procedures
Steering Gear Housing. Replacing
Steering Gear Housing. Replacing
Removing the steering gear housing from the steering column
Remove:
-
the floor carpet on the driver's side
-
the tie strap from the intermediate plate
-
the screw from the pinion shaft.
Align the car wheels so that they are straight.
Lock the steering wheel lock.
Removing the ends of the ball joint
Raise the front end of the car.
Remove:
-
the right front wheel (only applies to left-hand drive cars)
the left front wheel (only applies to right-hand drive cars)
-
the ends of the ball joints for the tie rods from the wheel spindles.
Removing the front exhaust pipe
Remove:
-
the front exhaust pipe.
-
the rear engine mounting from the transmission
-
the heat deflector plate from the steering gear housing.
Removing the steering gear housing
Position a container under the steering gear housing to collect the fluid.
