Steering Shaft/Steering Column
Steering Shaft
The steering column is divided into two parts and has two joints, one between upper and lower steering column shafts and one joint as a connection to
the steering gear.
The upper part of the steering column is further divided to prevention intrusion into the passenger compartment in event of a collision. A rubber
isolator is mounted in the division.
For additional safety the steering wheel spokes are made of sheet steel which deforms when the load is too great.
Steering Column
The steering column (steering shaft, steering wheel lock and mechanism for steering wheel rake and raising/lowering) is an integrated unit protected
by an outer pipe.
The steering wheel rake can be set in different positions. It can be raised and lowered ±20 mm. The upper steering column is equipped with a universal
joint which makes these adjustments possible.
The rake and the raising and lowering is set using a lever on the left side just under the steering wheel.
The greater part of the steering column, and the upper part of the steering shaft is made of aluminum.
There is an integrated collapsible coupling in the steering column. In the event of a collision the lower steering shaft is pushed together.
When replacing the whole steering column must be replaced.
