Inflatable Curtains

Inflatable Curtains

There are two inflatable curtains connected to the supplemental restraint system module (SRS). These connections are electrically separated from each
other. The inflatable curtains are located in the roof between the A and C posts. The inflatable curtains have only one ignition component. The task of the
inflatable curtains is to protect the heads and upper bodies of any occupants in the event of a side on collision. The Supplemental Restraint System
Module (SRS) deploys each of the inflatable curtains individually, depending on the signals from the side impact sensors.

The inflatable curtains use a smaller amount of pyrotechnical charge. This is connected to a reservoir containing Argon and Helium. When the control
module deploys the inflatable curtain the pyrotechnical charge heats up the holder which detonates. The expanding gases cause the inflatable curtain to
inflate, deflate and cover the side windows and B-post. The inflatable curtain aids in protecting the head from injury. The inflatable curtain inflates in
approximately 3 seconds after deployment.

NOTE:  Ohmmeters or similar must not be used when testing the airbags or seat belt tensioner. Disconnect the airbags or seat belt tensioners before
testing. The airbags may accidentally deploy if this is not done. Which can result in very serious injury or death.
