V70 XC AWD L5-2.4L Turbo VIN 56 B5254T (1998)
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
What is the reason for this program?
Volvo Cars of North America, Inc. has determined that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain model year 1998 and early model
year 1999 Volvo V70 Wagons.
Due to normal production variability, the tip of the tailpipe in some of these vehicles may protrude beyond the contour of the rear bumper cover. If your
vehicle is equipped with a child auxiliary seat accessory (third seat), passengers may come into contact with the tailpipe when exiting or entering the
vehicle through the cargo area. If the tailpipe is hot this could result in injury.
All vehicles equipped with a child auxiliary seat accessory (third seat) must have the tailpipe inspected. An adjustment to the tailpipe may be required.
What should you do?
Please call your authorized Volvo Retailer as soon as possible to schedule an appointment for an inspection and an adjustment, if required. This

According to Insurance institute for Highway Safety president Brian O'Neill, "It is very important that owners of vehicles in which safety-related
problems have been identified that those vehicles be taken back to dealerships as soon as they receive notice of a recall or service campaign. Such
notices should not be ignored or taken lightly. There is no reason to drive around in a vehicle with a safety-related defect."
