Seat Belt Tensioner: Testing and Inspection
Checking To See If The Seat Belt Tensioner Is Deployed Or Not
Checking belt movement
NOTE: There are two methods of checking whether seat belt tensioners have deployed or not. If in any doubt after carrying out the 1st method, go on
to the 2nd method.

Pull out and release the seat belt repeatedly.
Pull out the seat belt to its full length.
The belt should roll in and out as usual.
If the belt is rolling normally:
If the belt operates normally, the seat belt tensioner has not deployed.
If the belt is not rolling normally:
Indications that the seat belt tensioner has deployed are:

the seat belt sticks.

the seat belt jerks in and out.

the seat belt does not roll up properly or not at all.
If the seat belt tensioner has deployed. Replace both seat belt tensioners.
NOTE: If in any doubt whether the seat belt tensioner has deployed or not, perform the next operation.
Checking Seat Belt Tensioner Piston Position

Make a note of radio code if anti-theft coded radio installed.

Ignition off.
-
Disconnect battery negative lead.
