Camshaft Oil Seal: Service and Repair

SPECIAL TOOLS 

-

Counterhold tool No. 999 5199, or equivalent

-

Drift tool No. 999 5449, or equivalent

-

Drift tool No. 999 5450, or equivalent

PROCEDURE

NOTE:  Proceed to step 5 if replacing rear camshaft seals only

1. Remove timing belt

Disconnect battery ground lead.
Remove Timing Belt as described in Replacement steps 1 through 6.See: Timing Components/Timing Belt/Service and Repair

2. Remove camshaft pulleys

Use counterhold tool No. 999 5199, or equivalent.

NOTE:  Do not turn camshafts independent of crankshaft while belt is removed.

3. Remove front seals

-

Pry out seals carefully using screwdriver, taking care to avoid damaging sealing faces on shafts and in seats.
Clean seats and inspect shafts for signs of wear.
