Auxiliary Heater Element: Service and Repair

Glow plug engine coolant heater, replacing

As the illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and / or models, some variation may occur. However, the essential
information in the illustrations is always correct.

Preparations

Remove left-hand headlamp. See Headlight/bulb, replacing. See: Lighting and Horns/Headlamp/Headlamp Bulb/Service and Repair/Headlight/Bulb,
Replacing

Removing the glow plugs for the engine coolant heater

Remove the protective socket.
Unscrew the glow plug.

Installing the glow plug for the engine coolant heater

Screw the glow plug into place. Tighten to 15 Nm.
Reconnect the protective socket.
Check that no DTCs were stored during the repair.

Final check

Start the engine and let it idle for a few seconds before starting the heater.
Test run the heater. Check the function of the heater. See Engine coolant heater, test running See: Testing and Inspection/Component Tests and General
Diagnostics/Engine Coolant Heater, Test Running.
Check that no DTCs were stored during the repair.
Install the left-hand headlamp. See Headlight/bulb, replacing See: Lighting and Horns/Headlamp/Headlamp Bulb/Service and Repair/Headlight/Bulb,
Replacing Headlight/bulb, replacing See: Lighting and Horns/Headlamp/Headlamp Bulb/Service and Repair/Headlight/Bulb, Replacing.
