Checking the seat belt tensioner
Caution! When replacing deployed seat belt tensioners, seat belt buckles and end mountings must always be replaced.
Seat belt tensioners can be checked in two different ways:
1. Check for any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) using VIDA
2. Physical check as follows.
Note! Third row seat belt tensioners cannot be checked physically, only via VIDA.
Insert a wire in the pipe on the seat belt tensioner as illustrated.
Check the piston position in the seat belt tensioner.
Piston position A:
The seat belt tensioner has deployed. Replace both the seat belt (inertia) reels and the seat belt tensioners. See Seat belt front, replacing See: Seat

Piston position B:
The seat belt tensioner has not deployed. No corrective action is required.
Note! If any airbag has deployed, all seat belts and tensioners must be replaced.
