Battery Tray: Service and Repair

Battery compartment, removing

As the illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and / or models, some variation may occur. However, the essential
information in the illustrations is always correct.

Removing the battery compartment

Remove components. See Rear section, exposing .

If necessary, remove:

-

the outer rear section. See Rear section outer, replacing  

-

the rear bumper rail. See Bumper rail rear, replacing  

-

the inner rear section. See Rear section inner, replacing .

Determine the extent of the damage. See Body seal  and Body side, alignment chart .
Grind off the spot welds.
Pry off the battery compartment.
Grind clean.
Apply welding primer.

Installing the battery compartment

Secure the replacement part.
Weld into place.

Install:

-

the inner rear section. See Rear section inner, replacing  

-

the rear bumper rail. See Bumper rail rear, replacing  

-

the outer rear section. See Rear section outer, replacing  

Seal according to Body seal .

Note! For this type of damage, the whiplash system must be checked. See Whiplash unit, checking See: Body and Frame/Seats/Testing and
Inspection/Component Tests and General Diagnostics/Whiplash Unit, Checking.
