Steering wheel position, adjusting
Note! As the illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and/or models, some variation may occur. However, the
essential information in the illustrations is always correct.
Preparation
Test drive the car and make a note of the steering wheel position.
Remove the battery lead. See Battery, disconnecting See: Starting and Charging/Battery/Service and Repair/Procedures/Battery, Disconnecting.
Remove the driver's airbag module. See Airbag driver's side (SRS), replacing See: Restraint Systems/Air Bag Systems/Air Bag/Service and
Repair/Airbag Driver's Side (SRS), Replacing.
Steering wheel position, adjusting
Remove the steering wheel mounting screw.
Turn the steering wheel to the position noted during the test drive. Remove the steering wheel.
Zero the contact reel. See Contact reel driver airbag module, resetting See: Restraint Systems/Air Bag Systems/Clockspring Assembly / Spiral
Cable/Adjustments.
Set the steering wheel to the "straight ahead" position.
Note! Do not turn the steering wheel when it is on the steering shaft. Since the contact reel is locked, it will be damaged beyond repair if the
wheel is turned in this situation.
Tighten the steering wheel mounting screw. Tighten to 35 Nm.
Remove the locking screw for the contact reel. Secure the locking screw in the "parking hole" in the steering wheel.
