Removing and installing brake caliper (PR 1ZC)
Removing and installing brake caliper (PR 1ZC)
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1332-
Removing
–  Raise the vehicle.
–  Remove wheels.
–  Use suitable pliers to press brake pads slightly into brake caliper.
  Note
This makes it easier to remove the brake caliper from the brake disc.
   
–  Unscrew bolts from brake carrier -18-.
–  With pads still fitted, remove brake caliper together with brake carrier and secure with wire so that weight of caliper does not strain or damage brake hose.
  WARNING
Do not leave the brake caliper hanging from the brake hose.
  Note
Brake hose/line must not be twisted or kinked.
Installing
Renew bolts.
l  Piston in brake caliper is pressed back.
–  Slide brake caliper with brake carrier and brake pads fitted over brake disc.
  A46-10163
–  Secure brake carrier with both bolts -18-.
–  Fit wheels.
Tightening torque for wheel bolts → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. gr.44
–  Lower vehicle.
  Note
t  Firmly depress the brake pedal several times with the vehicle stationary, so that the brake pads are properly seated in their normal operating position.
t  Check brake fluid level.
  Caution
Make sure that the brakes work properly before the vehicle is driven on the road.
