Air conditioner compressor regulating valve -N280-
t  The regulating valve is switched on and off at 5 second intervals.
–  This results in the compressor being switched on and off.
–  The regulating valve is actuated so that a current of approx. 0.8 A (or 0.65 A, depending on the version of the operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87- used) flows.
–  Rectify the fault which is causing the compressor to shut off → Chapter(Read the measured value block)
–  Check the air conditioner compressor regulating valve -N280- → Chapter (electrical check)

  Note
t  The air conditioner compressor regulating valve -N280- control element is only actuated if the engine is not running. If the engine is running, this control element is not displayed in the final control diagnosis on the display for the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051- and is not actuated by the operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87-
t  The air conditioner compressor regulating valve -N280- is installed (the compressor can only be replaced in specialist air conditioner workshop). → Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a
t  The current which flows when the air conditioner compressor regulating valve -N280- is switched on can be measured with a current probe, for example → Chapter (electrical check)
t  The air conditioner compressor regulating valve -N280- is not actuated if there is a further compressor shut-off criterion present in addition to “5 = Engine speed less than 300 rpm”.

Fresh-air blower -V2-
t  The fresh air blower -V2- is running
–  The voltage at the fresh air blower -V2- is continuously changed between 0% and 100% within 5 seconds
–  Check that the fresh-air blower is moving freely
–  Use the current flow diagram to check the earth connection for the control unit for the fresh-air blower -J126-
–  Check the control unit for the fresh-air blower -J126- → Chapter
–  Replace the operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87- → Chapter
DANGER: The fan is switched on Info display
  WARNING:
The next time the button is pressed, the radiator fan -V7- is switched on. Keep hands away from the fan area

  Note
Start the engine if you wish to check actuation of the fan. The control unit for the radiator fans -J293- only switches the radiator fans -V7- on if the engine is running (voltage present at terminal “61”).

The control unit for the radiator fans, speeds “1”+“2” (control unit for the radiator fans -J293- switches fan speed “1”)
t  The request for the 1st fan speed is activated and deactivated every 5 seconds.
–  With the engine running, the control unit for the radiator fans -J293- switches the fan on and off every 5 seconds.
–  Using the current flow diagram, check the wiring between the operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87- and the control unit for the radiator fans -J293- for open circuits or a short circuit to earth → ”Current Flow Diagrams, Electrical Fault-Finding, Fitting Locations”
–  Check actuation of the radiator fan -V7- → Chapter (electrical check)
–  Check actuation of the radiator fan -V7-. → "Current Flow Diagrams, Electrical Fault-Finding and Fitting Locations"

  Note
Start the engine if you wish to check actuation of the fan. The control unit for the radiator fans -J293- only switches the fans -V7- on if the engine is running (voltage present at terminal “61”).

The control unit for the radiator fans, speeds “1”+“2” (control unit for the radiator fans -J293- switches fan speeds “1” and “2”)
t  The request for the 2nd fan speed is activated and deactivated every 5 seconds.
Temperature sensor blower -V42-
t  The temperature sensor blower -V42- in the dash panel is switched on and off at 5 second intervals.
–  Smoke is drawn in by the blower
–  Check that there is clear access through intake opening → Chapter
–  Remove the operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87- and replace the temperature sensor blower -V42- → Chapter.

  Note
Use smoke, for example, to check operation of the temperature sensor blower -V42- (hold the smoke generator in front of intake opening in the operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87-).

Temperature flap positioning motor -V68-
t  The positioning motor for temperature flap -V68- moves from one limit stop to the other
–  Check that the temperature flap is moving freely
–  Open all the dash panel vents
–  The fresh air blower is running
–  The air temperature from the vents changes
–  Using the current flow diagram, check the wiring between positioning motor for temperature flap -V68- and the operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87- for an open circuit or to see if the wiring has been interchanged.
–  Check the temperature flap positioning motor -V68- → Chapter
–  Replace the operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87- → Chapter

  Note
t  The switch-on function in the operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87- for the heated rear window -Z1- can be tested during final control diagnosis, for example, with the multimeter -V.A.G 1715-. Place the current probe over the positive lead running from the operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87- to the heated rear window -Z1- and select the “current measurement via the current probe” function on the multimeter. The display changes from approx. 0 A to greater than 7 A.
t  If the control element “Heated front windscreen” is displayed following the control element Heated rear window -Z1-, check the encoding of the operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87- → Chapter. The Audi A2 will not be available with a heated front windscreen for the time being. However, the operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87- already supports the possibility of activating this output for final control diagnosis via possible encoding in the future.
