• ‒ Remove tailgate interior trim

=> General Body Assembly, Interior; Repair group 70; Trims

• ‒ Detach/unplug electrical connectors, hose for central locking system and hose for rear window washer system.
• ‒ Open and support the tailgate.
• ‒ → Use screwdriver to lift retaining spring -1- as shown and detach gas-filled strut from ball stud at top.

Note:

If gas-filled strut is removed completely, note correct position when re-installing:

Damping element must be attached at body side.

• ‒ To install, press gas-filled strut onto ball stud.

• ‒ → Unscrew hexagon bolts -1- (2x) from tailgate -6-.
• ‒ Tightening torque on installation 21 Nm.
