Note:

The mechanic must electrostatically discharge him/herself before disconnecting ignition and earth wires (briefly touch closing wedge for door or body).

• ‒ Detach ignition and earth wires from side airbag up to MY 1998 =>Fig.1
• ‒ Detach ignition and earth wires from side airbag as of MY 1999 =>Fig.2

• ◆ For vehicles from model year 1999 onwards:
• ‒ Attach connector -2- (airbag adapter VAS 5094) to connector housing -3-.
• ‒ Connect ignition wire -6- for airbag module to connector -1- (airbag adapter).

• ◆ For vehicles from model year 1999 onwards:
• ‒ Attach connector -5- to igniter wiring -6-.
• ‒ Leave connectors -1- and -2- free.
• ◆ For all vehicles:
• ‒ On vehicles with heated seat, unplug connector.
• ‒ Cover floor covering at rear around guide rail.
• ‒ Push seat backwards out of guide.
• ‒ Lift seat out of vehicle.

• Airbag adapter igniter wire connector
• Airbag adapter plug earthing wiring Audi A6 1998,
  Audi A4 1995 ä up to 1998 and
  Audi A3 1997 ä up to 1998
• Earth wire connector from airbag module
• Airbag adapter - Plug earth wiring (Golf 1991 ä)
• Earth wire for airbag adapter connector, Audi A6 1999 ä,
  Audi A4 1999 ä and
  Audi A3 1999 ä
• Igniter wire connector from airbag module

• ‒ → With a screwdriver -4- lever out plug -1- of side airbag over the locking tab -2- and pull out plug in direction of arrow -3-.
• ‒ Should you not be able to lever out the side airbag connector with a screwdriver, press the locking lug on the side airbag connector sideways with your fingers -5-.
• ‒ At the same time, pull connector for side airbag towards the front with the other hand.

• ‒ → With a screwdriver -1- lever out catch -2- via the retainer tab-3- and detach connector -4-.

• ‒ → Press release -A- and unplug connector in direction of arrow.

Notes:

Installation is in reverse order.

• ◆ After connecting the battery, please ensure that the vehicle accessories (radio, clock, electric window lifters) are checked according to workshop manual and/or operating instructions.
• ◆ If the fault warning light (K 75) for airbag signals a fault after assembly the fault memory must be erased and again be interrogated by using fault reader V.A.G 1551.
