Attention:
  • ◆ Never allow brake fluid to come into contact with liquids containing mineral oil (oil, petrol, cleaning agents) as mineral oils would damage the plugs and collars in the brake system.
  • ◆ Brake fluid is poisonous and is never to be sucked off by mouth with a hose. On account of its corrosive effect it must also not be allowed to come into contact with paintwork.
  • ◆ Brake fluid is hygroscopic, i.e. it absorbs moisture from the atmosphere and is therefore always to be kept in containers with an air-tight seal.
  • ◆ Observe disposal regulations.

Special feature of vehicles with ABS/EDL

If one chamber of the brake fluid reservoir is completely empty (e.g. on account of leaks in brake system), hydraulic unit must be bled with vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 using function "04 - Basic setting" =>Page 47-26.

When using filling and bleeding appliance, e.g. VAS 5234 or V.A.G 1869 A, to replenish brake fluid care must be taken to ensure that filling pressure does not exceed 1 bar.

In the event of a filling pressure greater than 1 bar, a hydraulically actuated switching valve for the EDL control system prevents full flushing of the areas of the hydraulic unit specific to EDL. Proper bleeding is then no longer guaranteed.

The brake fluid pressure at the filling and bleeding appliance must therefore be reduced to 1 bar.

Notes:

  • ◆ Make exclusive use of fresh brake fluid, part no. B 000 700 A (in container sizes from 0.25 to 30 litres).
  • ◆ Rinse off any brake fluid which escapes using copious amounts of water.
