Coding of operating and display unit with two displays

Notes:

  • ◆ Operating and display units with the part no. 8L0 820 043 up to index "E" and with indices "M" and "N" are equipped with two displays.
  • ◆ For vehicles with map-controlled cooling (for 1.6 l engine to be gradually introduced as from model year 2000):
  • ‒ The codes for the operating and display unit -E87 are different to those for vehicles without map-controlled cooling.
  • ‒ A centre vent temperature sender -G191 is also installed (in air duct for "centre" dash panel vent).
  • ‒ The -E87 must be adjusted to the other set-up for the engine cooling via a different code (the refrigerant temperature is controlled by the engine control unit according to the engine load and is higher when the engine is running at part throttle in comparison to full throttle).
 
→ Only an operating and display unit -E87 with part number 8L0 820 043 as of index "H" can be installed in vehicles with map-controlled cooling, as the map-controlled cooling coding is only recognised as of this index. As the indices "H", "J", "K" and "L" are already allocated to a modified version of -E87 (use in series production as of model year 2001), operating and display units with part number 8L0 820 043 and indexes "M" (or "N" for Japan) will be installed until production has been reorganised.

→ As of model year 2000, the assignment of the ignition key is conveyed by the dash panel insert (data telegram) together with the refrigerant temperature (when ignition is switched on). This information can only be processed by operating and display unit -E87 with part number 8L0 820 043 as of index "H". As the indices "H", "J", "K" and "L" are already allocated to a modified version of -E87 (use in series production as of model year 2001), operating and display units with part number 8L0 820 043 and indexes "M" (or "N" for Japan) will be installed until production has been reorganised.

    Enter address word 08 "Electronic climate/heating control" and advance the program until "Select function XX" appears on display onwards.
  • ‒ Switch on printer by pressing PRINT key (lamp in key lights up).

Explanation of the individual code digits (e.g. 03140):

0 = Unallocated (up to index "E") or

a vehicle without map-controlled cooling (for

indices "M" and "N")

3 = Audi A3

1 = Compressor without sender for speed

4 = 4-cyl. Engine

0 = petrol engine in an LHD vehicle

(e.g. 13140):

1 = Vehicle with map-controlled cooling (only for

indices "M" and "N")

  • ‒ Encode operating and display unit -E87 according to the vehicle type, engine and country.
  • ‒ Press Q to confirm entry.
  • ‒ Perform basic setting .

Notes:

  • ◆ If an invalid code is entered in operating and display unit -E87, it is suppressed and the code "04042" (Audi A4 4 cyl. USA) is stored. It could happen that the fault "sender for venting temperature in centre -G191" is stored although this component is not installed into the Audi A3 without map-controlled engine cooling.
  • ◆ Assignment of operating and display unit
