Removing and installing slave cylinder

Removing –  If fitted, remove cover panel (front left) -arrows-.

–  If fitted, detach hose -1- for secondary air pump. –  Detach air intake hose at air mass meter -G70- (slacken hose clip -2-). –  Unplug electrical connector for air mass meter -G70--3-. –  Remove bolts -4- and -5- and detach air cleaner housing → Repair group 23 or → Repair group 24.

–  Detach cable support bracket from gearbox, if necessary unclip pipe/hose assembly -arrows-.

Detaching selector mechanism on vehicles up to 09.98 –  Detach damper weight -A- and gear selector cable -B- from gearbox selector lever. –  Unscrew gear selector cable and take off washer and square nut (self-locking). –  Pull gate selector cable off actuating arm/relay lever -C-, to do this lift lug in direction of arrow.

Detaching selector mechanism on vehicles from 09.98 to 06.01 –  Remove securing clip -arrow- and pull off gate selector cable -A- with relay lever. –  Remove nut -arrow- and detach gear selector cable -B- with gearbox selector lever. –  Tie up gear selector cable with gearbox selector lever and gate selector cable with relay lever.

Detaching selector mechanism on vehicles from 07.01 –  Detach securing clip -3- for gear selector cable from gearbox selector lever -1-. –  Detach securing clip -4- for gate selector cable from relay lever -2-. –  Pull gate selector cable and gear selector cable off joint pins -arrows-.

Continued for all vehicles –  Remove bolts -arrows- for slave cylinder. –  Remove slave cylinder.

–  Pull clip -A- and then pipe/hose assembly -C- out of slave cylinder and seal end of pipe. Installing Installation is carried out in reverse sequence; note the following:

–  Press retaining clip -A- in as far as it will go. –  Position recess on hose/pipe assembly so that it faces lug on clutch slave cylinder -arrow B-. –  Insert hose/pipe assembly -C- in slave cylinder, making sure you hear it engage. –  Lubricate end of operating rod with MoS2 grease. –  Install slave cylinder. –  Attach selector mechanism to gearbox on vehicles up to 09.98 → Chapter. –  Attach selector mechanism to gearbox on vehicles from 09.98 → Chapter. –  After installing slave cylinder, bleed clutch system → Chapter. –  Install complete air cleaner housing → Rep. Gr.23 or → Rep. Gr.24. Tightening torques

Clutch slave cylinder to gearbox		23 Nm
Selector cable support bracket to gearbox		25 Nm
