Performing diagnosis of map-controlled engine cooling system Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system -VAS 5051 A- with diagnosis lead -VAS 5051/1-   Note t  The map-controlled engine cooling system is monitored by the engine control unit → Rep. Gr.01. t  In addition, the result of a continuous plausibility test can be read off in the function "Read measured value block", “Display group 130”. Test condition l  Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051 A- with diagnosis lead -VAS 5051/1- is connected; vehicle self-diagnosis and vehicle system “01 - Engine electronics” is selected. Engine must be idling. l  Coolant temperature at least 80 °C.

Test sequence Display on -VAS 5051 A- –  From the list -1- select diagnostic function “08 - Read measured value block”.

Display on -VAS 5051 A- 1 -  Enter display group (highest possible entry = 255) –  Use keypad -2- to enter “130” for “Display group number 130” and confirm by touching the Q key.

Display on -VAS 5051- –  Check display in zones -1-, -2- and -4-.

l  1) The coolant temperature at the engine outlet must always be above the temperature at the radiator outlet. l  2) Only the plausibility of the system is checked. Therefore, “Syst. OK” may be displayed even though an electrical fault has been detected.

–  Switch to “display group 131” by touching the ↑ key.

Display on -VAS 5051 A- –  Check display in zone -4-.

l  1) Interrogate fault memory of engine control unit → Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051.

–  Press the ← button to exit from the function “08 - Read measured value block”. –  Press “06 - End output”. –  Switch off ignition.
