  • ● Engine in vehicle

Notes:

  • ◆ All cable ties which are opened or cut open on removal must be replaced in the same position when installing.
  • ◆ Change the engine oil if there are particles or other impurities in the oil:

  • ◆ Before applying sealant, check updated information:

  • ‒ Drain cooling system.
  • ‒ Remove front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter => Page 26-15.

  • ‒ → Remove support for exhaust manifold -arrows-.
  • ‒ Remove upper section of intake manifold => Page 15-10.

  • ‒ → Detach bracket -arrow- for oil dipstick guide tube from lower section of intake manifold.
  • ‒ Turn crankshaft to TDC position of No. 1 cylinder with engine installed => Page 13-37.
  • ‒ Turn crankshaft to TDC position of No. 1 cylinder with engine removed => Page 13-42.
  • ‒ Take toothed belt off camshaft sprocket => Page 13-34.

  • ‒ → Unplug electrical connector -arrow- from camshaft adjuster.

  • ‒ → Unbolt coolant pipe flange from cylinder head (left) and place it to one side.

Note:

Leave coolant hoses connected.

Vehicles with exhaust gas recirculation

  • ‒ → Unplug electrical connector -3-.
  • ‒ Disconnect vent hose -2-.
  • ‒ Unscrew bolts -1-, -4- and -5- and detach exhaust gas recirculation valve -N18.

Shown in illustration with engine removed.

Vehicles with secondary air system

  • ‒ → Disconnect hoses -2- and -3-.

Note:

The combination valve -1- for the secondary air system can remain installed.

  • ‒ Disconnect crankcase breather hose from cylinder head cover.
  • ‒ → Unscrew nuts on cylinder head cover in order -9 ... 1-.

  • ‒ → Loosen cylinder head bolts in the sequence indicated: 1 ... 10.
  • ‒ Remove cylinder head.
