Removing

• ● Engine in vehicle

• ‒ Remove toothed belt .
• ‒ → Remove toothed belt sprocket from crankshaft. To do this, hold sprocket in position with counter-hold tool 3415.
• ‒ Remove sump => Page 17-10.

• ‒ → Unscrew bolts -1...6-.
• ‒ Prise off sealing flange and remove.
• ‒ Carefully remove sealant remaining on cylinder block.

• ‒ → Remove sealant remaining on sealing flange (with rotating plastic brush or similar).
• ‒ Clean sealing surfaces: they must be free of oil and grease.

Installing

Note:

The sealing flange must be installed within 5 minutes after applying silicone sealant.

• ‒ → Cut off nozzle of tube at front marking (nozzle dia. approx. 3 mm).

• ‒ → Apply the bead of silicone sealant onto the clean sealing surface of the sealing flange, as illustrated (arrow).
• ‒ Thickness of sealant bead: 2 ... 3 mm

Note:

The sealant bead must not exceed this thickness, excess sealant could enter the sump and clog the filter in the oil intake pipe.

• ‒ Fit the sealing flange immediately, and tighten all bolts lightly.

Note:

Use guide sleeve T10053/1 to fit sealing flange with the oil seal already installed.

• ‒ Tighten sealing flange bolts in diagonal sequence.
• ‒ Install sump => Page 17-13.

Note:

After installing, the sealant must be allowed to dry for about 30 minutes before putting in engine oil.

• ‒ Install crankshaft oil seal (pulley end) => Page 13-50.
• ‒ Install toothed belt (adjust valve timing) => Page 13-30.

Note:

Follow all instructions for removing and installing toothed belt
