The idle stabilisation requires the engine control unit to know the stop positions of the throttle valve positioner (V60) and the potentiometer characteristics of the throttle valve positioner sensor (G127) and throttle valve potentiometer (G69).

The learning process (adaptation) is necessary if:

• ◆ The power supply to the engine control unit has been interrupted (e.g. the battery disconnected) .
• ◆ The throttle valve control unit was replaced.
• ◆ The engine control unit was replaced.

The learning process (adaptation process) is performed:

• ◆ Automatically if the ignition is switched on once for at least 6 seconds without actuating the starter or the accelerator pedal.
• ◆ By initiating the basic setting (function 04) Display Group 98 with the engine stopped.

Test conditions

• ● No fault stored in fault memory
  . Interrogate the fault memory.

• ‒ Connect the V.A.G 1551 fault reader (V.A.G 1552) and select the engine electronics control unit with the "Address word" 01. During this, the ignition must be switched on.

• ‒ Press keys 0 and 4 for the function "Introduction of basic setting" and confirm entry with the Q key.

• ‒ Press keys 0, 9 and 8 for "Display group number 98" and confirm entry with the Q key.

When the Q key is pressed, the throttle valve positioner moves to min., - max. - and five intermediate positions. The control unit records the voltage reading for each position in its non volatile memory. This process takes no more than 10 seconds. The throttle valve then remains in the start position for a brief period before closing.

• ‒ Interrogate the fault memory

Note:

If the basic setting of the control unit is interrupted, the cause could be one of the following:

• ◆ The throttle valve does not reach the mechanical idle stop due to contamination.
• ◆ Throttle cable incorrectly adjusted.
• ◆ The battery voltage is too low.
• ◆ The throttle valve control unit or wiring is defective.

After an interruption, the fault "Basic setting not completed, fault in basic setting" is stored in the fault memory. The next time the ignition is switched on, the basic setting is automatically performed again.

• ‒ Terminate the engine basic setting by pressing the ⇒ key.
• ‒ Press keys 0 and 6 for the function "End data transfer" and confirm the entry with the Q key.
