Fault table > < Connecting the V.A.G 1551 fault reader and selecting the engine electronics control unit

A3 Mk1

Motronic fuel injection and ignitionsystem (4-cyl. turbo)
Self-diagnosis for the Motronic system
Interrogating and erasing fault memory
  • ‒ Connect the V.A.G 1551 fault reader (V.A.G 1552) and select the engine electronics control unit with the "Address word" 01. The engine must be idling.
    (Connecting the fault reader and selecting the engine electronics control unit ).
 
→ Display readout:
Rapid data transfer      HELP
Select function XX
  • ‒ Press keys 0 and 2 for the function "Interrogating fault memory" and confirm entry with the Q key.
 
→ The display will show either the number of faults stored or the message "No fault recognised!".
X faults recognised

If no fault is stored:

  • ‒ Press the ⇒ key.

If one or more faults are stored:

The stored faults are displayed in sequence and printed out.
 
→ Then the display will show:
Rapid data transfer      HELP
Select function XX
  • ‒ Localise and rectify the faults printed out in accordance with the error table => Page 01-9.
  • ‒ Press keys 0 and 5 for the function "Erasing fault memory" and confirm entry with the Q key.
 
→ Display readout:
Rapid data transfer     ⇒
Fault memory erased!

Note:

If the ignition is switched off between the interrogation of the fault memory and the erasure of the fault memory, the fault memory will not be erased.

  • ‒ Press the ⇒key.
 
→ Display readout:
Rapid data transfer      HELP
Select function XX
  • ‒ Press keys 0 and 6 for the function "End of output" and confirm entry with the Q key.
