Final control diagnosis

Notes:

  • ◆ The final control diagnosis can only be performed with the ignition switched on and the engine not running.
  • ◆ The final control diagnosis is terminated if the engine is started or if an engine speed pulse is detected.
  • ◆ During the final control diagnosis the individual control elements are actuated in turn for about 50 seconds each unless the programme is deliberately advanced to the next control element by pressing the ⇒key.
  • ◆ The control elements can be tested either by listening or by touching.
  • ◆ If the final control diagnosis is to be repeated without first running the engine briefly, switch off the ignition for about 2 seconds.
  • ◆ Once the final control diagnosis is complete, the engine cannot be re started until the ignition has been switched off and on again.
  • ◆ The ignition and injection systems are blocked during the final control diagnosis.

The final control diagnosis activates the following components in the stated sequence:

Fuel pump relay (J17)

2.

Activated charcoal filter solenoid valve 1 (N80)

3.

Exhaust gas recirculation valve (N18), (two-way valve)1)

    1)    Ignore display

4.

Intake manifold changeover valve (N156)

Test conditions

  • ‒ Connect fault reader V.A.G 1551 (V.A.G 1552) and select the engine electronics control unit with the "Address word" 01. When doing this the ignition must be switched on.

  • ‒ Operate fault reader, taking into account the information on the display:
  • ‒ Press keys 0 and 3 for the function "Final control diagnosis".

03-Final control diagnosis

Activating fuel pump relay (J17):

  • ‒ Confirm input with Q key.

Fuel pump relay-J17
  • The fuel pump relay will click (i.e. switch on and off) continuously for about 50 seconds unless the programme is deliberately advanced to the next control element by pressing the ⇒key.

Note:

During the activation of the fuel pump relay the fuel pump must be heard to run at intervals.

If the relay does not click:

  • ‒ Test fuel pump relay and activation
    .
  • ‒ Press the ⇒key.
 
→ Display readout:

Solenoid valve 1 for activated charcoal filter -N80
  • Solenoid valve 1 for activated charcoal filter -N80 will click (i.e. switch on and off) continuously for about 50 seconds unless the programme is deliberately advanced to the next control element by pressing the ⇒key.
  • ‒ If the valve is not activated (i.e. does not click), test solenoid valve for activated charcoal filter -N80
    .
  • ‒ Press the ⇒key.

Exhaust gas recirculation valve-N18

Note:

This display can be ignored.

  • ‒ Press the ⇒key.

Intake manifold changeover valve-N156

This valve will click (i.e. switch on and off) continuously for about 50 seconds unless the programme is deliberately advanced to the next control element by pressing the ⇒ key.

  • ‒ If the valve is not activated (i.e. does not click), test intake manifold changeover valve -N156 => Page 24-98.
  • ‒ Press the ⇒key.
 
→ Display readout:
Function is unknown or    ⇒
cannot be carried out at the moment.

The final control diagnosis is complete.

  • ‒ Press the ⇒key.

Note:

Before selecting function 03 "Final control diagnosis" again, switch the ignition off for about 2 seconds.
