  • ◆ Engine/gearbox lifter V.A.G 1383 A

 
A42-0102

Removing

Mounting bracket is not to be unscrewed to remove rear axle.

  • ‒ Remove rear wheels.
  • ‒ → Unclip brake cables -arrows-.
  • ‒ Unfasten clips -2- of brake hose holder and disconnect brake pipes (seal pipes with plugs).
 
A42-0099
  • ‒ → Screw out bolts -A-.
  • ‒ Detach brake caliper and hang up with piece of wire.

Note:

Brake hose/pipe is never to be twisted or kinked.

 
N42-0237
  • ‒ → Unplug connector -1- of ABS speed sensor.
  • ‒ Unclip speed sensor wire from holder -arrow-.
 
A42-0097
  • ‒ Use engine/gearbox lifter V.A.G 1383 A to provide support for rear axle at shock absorber mount.
  • ‒ → Unscrew bolt - 2 - on left and right.
  • ‒ Lower engine/gearbox lifter and take out coil spring.

 
A42-0102
  • ‒ Use engine/gearbox lifter V.A.G 1383 A to provide support for rear axle at axle beam.
  • ‒ → Unscrew bolts -1- for mounting bracket at rear axle on either side and lower rear axle.

Installing

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

  • ‒ Before fitting rear axle on vehicles up to Model Year 2000, fill kidney-shaped cavities of bonded rubber bushes with lithium grease G 052 150 A2.
  • ‒ Fit brake caliper.

  • ‒ Fill and bleed brake system.

=> Brake System; Repair Group 47

Tightening torques

    1)    90°corresponds to quarter turn

    2)    Replace bolts and nuts

Bolted joints with bonded rubber bushes must be tightened when vehicle is standing on its wheels.

Perform wheel alignment after installation.
