Special tools and workshop equipment required

  • ◆ Hub cover puller VW 637/2
  • ◆ Fitting sleeve 3241/4
  • ◆ Assembly tool 3420
  • ◆ 1 - Puller Kukko 20-2
  • ◆ 3 - Puller Kukko 204-1

Removing

  • ‒ Remove wheel.
  • ‒ → Detach grease cap from its seat by tapping gently on claw.

  • ‒ → Press off grease cap.
 
A42-0099
  • ‒ → Screw out bolts -A-.
  • ‒ Detach brake caliper and hang up with piece of wire.

Note:

Brake hose/pipe is never to be twisted or kinked.

 
A42-0100
  • ‒ Screw out cross-head bolt for brake disc and detach brake disc.
  • ‒ Unscrew twelve-point nut.
  • ‒ → Use puller Kukko 20-2 -Item A- to detach wheel bearing/wheel hub unit.
 
A42-0101
  • ‒ → Use puller Kukko 204/1 -Item A- to detach bearing inner race from stub axle.

Installing

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

  • ‒ → Slide wheel bearing/wheel hub unit as far as possible onto stub axle.
  • ‒ Screw on assembly tool 3420 and pull on wheel hub/wheel bearing unit as far as stop.
  • ‒ Unscrew assembly tool 3420.

  • ‒ → Fit new twelve-point nut and tighten.

 
N42-0268
  • ‒ → Use fitting sleeve 3241/4 to drive on grease cap.

Note:

Moisture can enter through damaged (dented) grease caps. For this reason, always use the special tool shown.

  • ‒ Fit brake disc and brake caliper.

    1)    45°corresponds to one eighth of a turn

    2)    Replace nut
