Special tools and workshop equipment required

  • ◆ Mandrel 3204
  • ◆ Caliper gauge

Visual inspection

  • ‒ Check whether steering column components reveal signs of damage.

Checking operation

  • ‒ Check whether steering column can be turned without catching or stiffness.
  • ‒ Check whether axial position and height of steering column can be adjusted.

The steering column is provided with so-called deformation elements designed to give way in the event of an accident.

These are located at the two upper bolted joints of the steering column.

  • ‒ → In the event of possible damage, remove steering column to the extent required to permit checking of dimension -a-.
    • ‒ Dimension a = 23 mm
  • ‒ If dimension -a- is greaterthan 23 mm, steering column is damaged and must be replaced.
