Seat belts

5 - Removing and installing third rear three-point seat belt (Avant)



◆ Removing: ‒ Remove rear seat bench ‒ Unscrew bolt -7-. ‒ Removing 2/3 backrest up to MY 97 => Page 72-116 ‒ Removing 2/3 backrest from MY 98 onwards => Page 72-118 ‒ Push fabric aside at belt guide trim -6- and use screwdriver to lever out retainer tab -11-. ‒ Pull out trim -6- in direction of arrow -A-.

‒ Remove upholstery from 2/3 backrest until fabric can be removed together with upholstery => Page 74-36
‒ Remove bolt -1- (1x).
‒ Pull connector -9- off belt tensioner, if applicable.
‒ Cut through tie band of belt tensioner triggering cable at belt tensioner.
‒ Unscrew nut -2- (1x).
‒ Remove third rear three-point seat belt - 3-.

‒ Installing belt guide trim -6- initially involves fitting and inserting retainer tab -10- then turning retainer tab -11- inwards and at the same time inserting arrow B (magnified view) plate -12- in cut out -13- in belt guide trim -6-.

‒ Clip in belt guide trim -6- in direction of arrow -C- by tapping it gently into position.
‒ Check belt-fastened sensor on vehicles with belt tensioner => Page 69-33

Check the following points after completing installation of backrest:

Guide fitting -4- and webbing -5- must not make contact with or rub on foam and fabric parts.

Guide fitting -4- must react to all movements of the webbing.

Webbing -5- must run freely in all directions.
