Notes:

• ◆ The clutch should only be dismantled for cleaning and for visual inspection.
• ◆ Be careful not to damage the ball valve -arrow- when repairing the clutch.

• Circlip
• ◆ Different thickness
• ◆ Do not mix up circlips for different clutches
• ◆ Mark after removing and insert in same position
• Thrust plate
• ◆ Smooth side faces toward plates

• Inner plate
• ◆ Quantity=> from Page 00-3
• ◆ Soak new inner plates in ATF for 15 minutes before installing
• Outer plate

• ◆ Before installing, fit together with spring supporting ring. Ensure springs are correctly located.
• Spring supporting ring
• Piston
• ◆ To remove, use a screwdriver to lever out of clutch housing at several points.
• ◆ Sealing lips are vulcanised to piston
• ◆ Moisten sealing lips with ATF before installing
• ◆ Turn piston slightly and keep straight when installing
• Clutch housing
• ◆ With ball valve -arrow-

Special tools and workshop equipment required

• ◆ Thrust plate VW 401
• ◆ Removing tool VW 460
• ◆ Assembly ring 3267

• ‒ Using 3267, carefully press down spring supporting plate just far enough to remove and install the circlip -arrow-.

Note:

Do not damage clutch housing ball valve.

Circlip (arrow) must be seated in the groove of clutch housing. Spring supporting plate must be centred relative to hub.

Note:

Do not confuse the groove in the clutch housing with the shoulder on the shaft.
