Removing

• ‒ Shift selector lever into position "2".
• ‒ Observe or obtain radio code on vehicles with coded radio.
• ‒ Disconnect earth strap on battery.
• ‒ Detach selector lever handle .
• ‒ Remove the front section of the centre console

=> General Body Assembly, Interior; Repair group 68; Shelves and trays/covers; Removing and installing front part of centre console

• ‒ Remove steering wheel:

=> General Body Assembly, Interior; Repair group 69; Airbag; Removing and installing steering wheel

• ‒ Turn ignition key to "ignition on" position.
• ‒ Move selector lever to position "P".
• ‒ Lift locking clip on locking device -1- and withdraw interlock cable from ignition/starter switch.
• ‒ Remove cover with guide (selector lever mechanism) .
• ‒ Unclip interlock cable from securing spring on bearing cup, to do this lift securing spring slightly => Fig.37-21.
• ‒ Release interlock cable from cable tie -2- and remove.

Installing

• ‒ Route interlock cable free of kinks.
• ‒ Turn ignition key to "ignition on" position.
• ‒ Fit interlock cable to ignition/starter switch.
• ‒ Check that locking device -1- engages.
• ‒ Secure interlock cable with cable tie -2- to airbag sensor.
• ‒ Turn ignition/starter switch to locked position ("ignition off").
• ‒ Move selector lever to position "P".
• ‒ Clip interlock cable into securing spring of bearing cup => Fig.37-21.
• ‒ Hook interlock cable support bracket -3- into shift mechanism and interlock cable eye into lever (for interlock cable).

Adjusting

• ‒ Move selector lever to position "P".
• ‒ Unfasten bolt -6-.
• ‒ It must be possible to slide the support bracket -3- in the direction indicated by the arrow -5-.
• ‒ Move steering column down.
• ‒ Attach setting gauge 3352 A -Item 4- between lever (for interlock cable) and interlock cable eyelet.
• ‒ Pull interlock cable in direction of arrow -5- and tighten bolt -6- to 10 Nm.
• ‒ Remove setting bar.
• ‒ Check ignition key withdrawal lock after each adjustment of interlock cable => Page 37-1.

• ‒ Install steering wheel.

• ‒ Reinstall front section of the centre console.

• ‒ Attach selector lever handle .
• ‒ Reconnect earth strap to battery.
• ‒ On vehicles with coded radio unit, activate code.
