Note:

 
A39-0097

→ On the left side of intermediate flange is a leakage oil inspection hole -arrow- for the sealing rings in the input pinion and intermediate flange.

If oil leaks from leakage oil inspection hole the double sealing ring must be replaced.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary equipment required

  • ◆ Thrust pad 3403

Removing

  • ‒ Remove transfer gear
  • ‒ Remove the intermediate flange for front axle drive
  • ‒ Carefully pull input pinion off output shaft.

Important:
Spur gears which have fallen to the ground can no longer be installed. The gearbox must be changed in this case.
  • ‒ Drive out sealing ring with drift

Installing

Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:

  • ‒ → Push the sealing ring onto the thrust pad 3403.
  • ‒ Drive in sealing ring with the thrust pad 3403 up to the stop in thrust pad.

  • ‒ → Cover the entire toothed area at the end of the shaft -arrow A- with insulating tape, ensuring that the shaft is not jolted in the process and that there are no folds in the tape covering. This will prevent damage to the oil seal when the input pinion is pushed on.
  • ‒ Fit input pinion centrally on output shaft (Installation position => Page 39-54)

Note:

If the input pinion is not fitted correctly, the sealing lips of the oil seal may be damaged.
