Removing and installing coolant pipe (bottom)
Removing and installing coolant pipe (bottom)
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Hose clip pliers -V.A.G 1921-

Removing
–  Drain coolant → Chapter.
–  Detach coolant hoses -1 and 3-.
–  Unbolt coolant expansion tank -2--arrows-.
–  Detach electrical wiring at coolant shortage indicator switch -F66- on coolant expansion tank (bottom).

–  Remove air hose -1-.
  Note
Disregard -item 2-.

–  Release retaining clip and detach coolant hose for heat exchanger at rear of coolant pipe -2-.
–  Detach coolant hose -4- going to oil cooler from coolant pipe.
–  Remove bolt -3-.
–  Move electrical wiring on bottom coolant pipe clear.
–  Press coolant pipe to rear and detach.
–  If fitted, remove plug -5-.
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:

t  Fit new O-rings.
t  Secure all hose connections with the correct type of hose clips (same as original equipment) → Parts catalogue.
–  Lubricate O-ring -1- with coolant additive “G 12+” and push onto coolant pipe -2-.
–  Slide coolant pipe into bore in cylinder block.
–  Fill up with coolant → Anchor.
